Well, I fixed up my old 10 gal with a divider and put my males in it. So I decided that I would put my females into the old "betta hex" tank and place them close to the other tank and let them get aquanited. Well I didn't put the lid on the hex tank and one of my females jumped out and died. I had the males in this tank for a week and neither jumped out and the only time the lid was on was when my grandbabies were looking at the fish. Are female Betta's more active than males or was she trying to get into the tank with the male?

I have never had a betta jump, though they are supposed to be good jumpers. Perhaps a fly was close to the surface of the water and she went for it.

I assume the water quality is fine as they will jump when the water quality gets bad.

I don't think females are worse than males, but a cover is pretty much a must I guess with these guys.

Sorry for your loss.

Ok, well I guess it's back to the fhs, I learned a lesson this morning. No the water wasn't bad, took it right out of the tank they were in. Hmmmm, I do have some banana's close, I wonder if she was after a banana nat?

Well stupid me, didn't let the tank cycle properly, no ammonia when I put the Betta's in there, this morning when I found the dead betta I checked it. WOW it was above 1.5. So I have rescued my 2 males and put them back into their "prison" (that's what I call that little hex tank), and a 50% water change. I'll check it tomorrow and see where my levels are. But my male Betta's are not going in ther for at least 4 days.
