Hi all

I am just wondering if anyone has had their female BP get a lump like this? I am not sure if something is wrong, or if she just ran into something.

Its quite large, but it has not effected her activity, eating, or anything. She seems healthier than ever, rearranging plants and eating, just with this giant lump.

Thanks

That appears to be either a worm/parasite trying to get out or the beginning of a tumor ( common in many hybrid fish). There's nothing you can do if it's a tumor, there are medications you can use to try and kill the parasite. If you have a bare bottom tank or container available to use as a hospital tank, I'd move the fish to that so that if it is a worm or parasite, it will leave the fish to reproduce, you would see it so that you can remove it from the container and then if the wound needs medicating, you can do it in a smaller volume of water. If you do this in the main tank, you may not see it to remove it and you could have a repeating circle of the parasite laying eggs, the offspring looking for a host ( another fish in the tank) live out it's growing period in the fish then come out to lay eggs again which starts the whole circle again.
Hope this helps. (y)
