I did with bad results. Not sure if you CAN'T, or if it is just not reccomeneded, or if I was an isolated case.

That's correct. There is Bettafix for bettas, but you should use it sparingly. Please remind me what you are treating for.

Dont use betta fix - its just a watered down melafix, even look at the ingredients. Labyrinth fish dont like melafix because it irritates their labyrinth organ. so dilute the melafix with water, maybe 10-1 water-melafix, and he should be ok.

Endgame is right, bettafix and melafix are the same thing. Bettafix is simply a diluted form of the product that makes dosing the generally smaller betta tanks alot easier. With either product, the final concentration of the active ingredient, melaleuca extract, is the same.

There doesn't seem to be a consensus on whether melaleuca extract is irritating to the labyrinth organ od anabantoid fish. Some people have had bad experiences, while others like myself have had good results.

In other words, use this product in betta tanks with caution and promptly remove it (charcoal works great) if the fish shows any signs of distress.

Oh yeah, I treated some very bad betta finrot with melafix AND daily 20% water changes. The infection cleared up in about a week. I'm not sure where the credit is due: the medication, or the increased water changes.

I would tell your friend to try daily water changes and consider the medication if the condition doesn't improve after a few days

I have read a lot on a couple of the betta forums debating this very issue, and like QTOFFER states, there is not a concensus, but if there is enough of a problem for it to come up at all, then I would certainly proceed with caution. I think maybe the times it had a deleterious effect was perhaps when not combined with daily water changes, but that's speculation.
