Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the great recommendations on troubleshooting my fx6. However even after adding more water (I’m at a foot now), the filter still isn’t working right and it’s even started to make a grinding noise.
The turtles are in a school and they’re not liking the sounds the filter makes and told me that I can’t add too much more water. I think I need to go in another direction for filters. Perhaps one that doesn’t rely on gravity.

It’s a 240 gallon tank with a foot of water. Any recommendations? I might add another few inches.

Look into filters for small ponds that will sit inside the tank. You may need to alter the returns so that they don't over spray but since you can't fill the tank, canisters and HOB styles are out of the question and if you go just "standard" internal fish tank filters and sponge style filters, you are going to be cleaning them daily because of the turtles.

Hope this helps. :thumb"

Thanks so much!! I’m geared towards the Tararium, middle size. The other is the Tetra pond. Do you have a preference?

I don't have a preference but suggest you get an approx measurement of how much water you have in the tank then get a filter that will turn it over 3-4 times per hour if the turtles are larger (for example, if you have 100 gallons of water, you want a filter that filters 300-400 gallons per hour) or 2-3 times per hour if the turtles are smaller. So the best filter is based more on the size of the turtles than the size of the tank.

Or build a cabinet for the aquarium and raise it above the filter. This will also make it easier for water changed using a syphon.
