Actually they are more orange/red/blue. Anyhow, my question is, do rams eat shrimp? I wanted to add a few to my tank just because, but im worried they will become a meal. Anyone?

They might, but they might not if you have plenty of hiding places. I love shrimp in my tanks. I would try some inexpensive ghost shrimp and see if they go for them, and if not then you can get more, or get different kinds. Congrats on your rams! I really like them but my water seems a bit hard for them.

My Bolivian Rams haven't eaten the shrimp I put in their tank, although he's pretty big. I think you'd be okay as long as you find larger shrimp to house with them.

Yeah, I just got them yesterday. When I put them in, they were pinkish, whitish. Within 30-45 minutes, they showered themselves with gold, red, orange and blue speckle. I was tickled beyond recognition :p I think I will try out some cheaper/larger shrimp first to see if they eat them.

Tankgirl, there isnt any way to get the water softer? I live in the country and have well water. Its always been pretty soft with a constant ph of lke 6.8. If its any way to get the water softer, its totally worth it. Rams have all sorts of weird behaviors that are fun to watch.

I recommend everyone check out Grottodesign on www.aquabid.com. He has great rams and Uaru's. Tell him I sent you!!

They might actually be happy in my heavily planted 55, since I inject CO2 and have driftwood and the pH is much lower in there than in my other tanks. Right now I have an adult male angel that pretty much "owns" this tank, however. When we move in the spring I might get him his own place and try rams in the 55, especially since the plants have taken over so much in there that I think the angel would appreciate more swimming space

Congrates on the Rams. My tap water has a Ph on the high side, so I have been steering away from soft water fishes. All these Rams are tempting me though.

Enki, Bolivian Rams are more tolerant of a higher PH than blue or gold German Rams. If you can find them, they're a lot of fun! I love mine...

Bolivians and Blue (German) Rams come from very diff bodies of water; there's about 1500 miles between their habitats! The Bolivians prefer softer water and pH around 7.0; Germans come from slightly harder more acidic areas.

My LFS is down to the last bolivian as we speak. I almost bought it, but I didnt want them to accidentally interbreed with the gold rams. I hear that is bad for the strain and can make for some ugly fish. I added 10 neons today to help them to be less shy too. It looks like theyre trying to school with the tetras!

Heres a picture of the possible pair. They keep chasing away the third, so thats a good sign.....sorta. I think I posted two of the same picture. Sorry!
