Just a fyi.... "premiering Friday, August 19, at 9 PM E/P."

Added it to my DVR already. ;)

They actually had a sneak preview last night on at 11pm. I watched most of it (until 11:45pm) and then came to my senses remembering I have to work for a living.

The show seems to follow the formula for Orange County Choppers, but with less vehemence between the family members. They reviewed the car turned into an aquarium, a $30K quarantine system, and a casino tank in Vegas that the manager wanted a pole in the tank that used for a live mermaid show disguised to look more natural. One of the guys also got scuba certified.

The main players (as I recall) are a guy and his brother-in-law. The father and the wife / sister had more minor roles.

I was a little disappointed in that they focused only on the extravagance, but not on the technology or the critters. In fact, they made it look as though they built the tank (which spanned two weeks), installed the tank in the morning, and fully stocked it in the afternoon with fish they grabbed at the local wholesaler. At one point, one of the guys picked up a longhorn cowfish and I think a blue spotted toby and held them out of the water for a few seconds. (I'm pretty sure either of these fish would secrete toxins from this kind of stress.) In fact, the guy even said that the toby had a long snout to enable it to reach into crevices to eat algae. To my knowledge, their primary diet is inverts. There was no mention of cycling the tanks and there was no mention of reefing.

I'll watch the show to see if they cover any of this in the future. I'm sure that a show all about cycling wouldn't be fun to watch, but I'm afraid that people are going to think they can duplicate what appeared to be represented.

The company featured is Acrylic Tank Manufacturing and their website is www.acrylicaquariums.com if you're interested. (They wore their logo polo shirts throughout the show and had their website shown in a few shots.)

I must agree with Rutrag. I also watched some of the sneak peak and it just doesn't appeal to me. It is more about making crazy tanks, and less about the fish themselves. It also seems like they will be mostly SW and I am a FW guy, so it doesn't appeal to me much.

That's a bummer! I was hoping they would at least explain the need for cycling so idiots wouldn't just dump the fish into toxic water and kill everything :(
