The new otos look prettier everyday, not anything like the pale drab half dead.

I wonder how long to most people QT around here?
I use 4 weeks unless the animals are form the same place and from the specie tanks with little time passing. Then I use a week.

I am totally going against the forum's unofficial motto of "If you don't quarantine, you should die."
For the record, my fiancé and I do not quarantine our fish. However, if there is a problem, then the fish gets QT.
Okay, bring on the lashings with a wet noodle!

I'm just being truthful.
Honestly, there has never been a problem (with one exception--the Badis, but they live by themselves and I knew they might have an ick problem).

I think about making it shorter for my regular lfs animals.
He already QT's on arrival for a couple weeks and puts Not For Sale signs on tanks that become suspect. He had some type of rare rasboas get sickly the day they came out of QT. But I am paranoid because the number of medicine sensitive fish I have like botias, loaches and the knife. It's that ounce of prevention thing. The 8 gal QT's are small and stackable and I save a media change cartridge in the corner of the big tanks to restart them.
I may have to do shorter QT when my hubby is home and is likely to get exasparated by having a fishtank centerpeice on the dining table....

I think that for most people the length of quarrantine is directly related to a mishap from NOT quarrantining. Once bitten, twice shy kinda thing. Once a fish introduces a nasty illness to the whole tank and you kill all of your carefully tended plants (and biofilter!) with medication, lose your favorite fish, etc., the next time you get new fish they stay in Q a little bit longer
