I am excited to learn more and if I can help by sharing what I have learned by my mistakes and my learning along my journey!
I am surprised how much I love my fish and that my husband and I are enjoying it!

Hello and welcome to the forum. :flowers: Yes, fish keeping can be very addictive as it can be very soothing at the end of a hectic day. :) Nothing beats a harmonious tank full of fish just swimming around and loving life to "chill" to. (y)

My aquarium is a work in progress, but I am enjoying it very much.
I have been learning a lot.
My Grandson is 8 and he started all the aquarium stuff. He now also has an aquarium.

Just an observation.

Putting a background on the tank will visually help a lot. It will hide all the equipment down the back of the tank and make everything you want to look at, like your fish and aquascape pop out. Plain black is commonly used, but you could look at other colours, or get posters with an aquatic background picture.

You can paint the back with acrylic paint, or get aquarium backgrounds that you fix with poster adhesive. These might be difficult to do now you have everything set up, but something to consider for the future if you should ever break down the aquarium. But a big sheet of coloured card down the back fixed with sticky tape or even a black bin liner would make a huge difference.

A background will also help the fish feel more secure too, giving them at least one side that doesn't appear open to them. In a few countries with strict animal welfare laws it's a legal requirement to have at least one side covered.

I'd give your plants a while to settle in. The plants you have will fill that aquarium once they settle in. Plants in the aquarium arent really a substitute for a background, the fish really would be happier with at least one side they cant see out of.

Wow, really? I had no idea!

Looking at the minimum tank size for fish, let's say an adult 8" goldfish. That law would require a minimum volume of 25 litres (6g). But it also would be required to be at least 3x body length by 2x the body length. So realistically thats getting up towards a 100 litre aquarium (25g) for 8" goldfish. But could keep up to 4 fish of that size.
