I know I'm wearing this board out. But heres another ?
How old is to old on dry food or any food to help others. I have shrimp pellets that I have no idea how old they are. I adopted them with a frog.
I also have 2.2 lbs. of hikari algae wafers (they are new and no i didn't buy them long story) .

"How old is too old?"

That quite subjective. If it is flakes that you are talking about, since they are pretty cheap, it wouldn't break the bank to replace them with fresh food.

On the flip side, you can never tell how long the fish food has been on the shelves at your LFS either.

I vary my fishes diet. Flakes, frozen blood worms, flakes, frozen brine shrimp, color pellets, blanched zuchini (once a month or so). If they don't like the stale flakes, they can wait until tomorrow.

I generally go with the 3 months max rule for flake food. Tablets I wull give 6 months since they are generally made with freeze dried products. That is why I only buy the small containers.

The flakes will loose vitamins once exposed to air and moisture.
