Hey Everyone I have a question for ya! I got myself a pair of acro frags that were under stong MH in the culture center. My tank is using 525W of PC lighting. They are about 12-14" from the top of the tank (PC hoods sit right on the tank, no tops) Is a photo acclimation necessary since the frags are likely under a little bit less intensity of light? (They are open with polyps clearly visible under my normal photoperiod) Feel free to give me any opinions or supplimental info, and as always thanks for your time attending to my question!

Yes it is still necessary, IMO. Even though the lighting is less intense now, the spectrum is probably different than it was before.

Ask, ReefRunner about this. He just had a similar experience with not being able to properly photo acclimate his coral. I sure he would show you the pictures...

Actually there is a new article on photo acclimation in the articles section.

While I agree with Biggen, it is best and should be done, I probably wouldn't bother. PC lights do not produce the UV or intensity that MH will. What is generally recommended is to place the corals on the bottom of the tank and over the course of a week or two move them to their target location.

would having the new mh come on for an hour turn off for 2 hours ect and every other day increase the time work ?? i was thinking about this after reading about reefrunners probs he had ?? didnt like the idea of window tint due to i like the open top my self ??

thought someone wrote thats what they did on your thread they added like 5 sheets and pulled a sheet off a week something like that ???
but gotcha screen !! no screen doors here lolol to cold and gloomy storm doors :)
