Play sand or arigonite?

Can you use play sand in your aquarium (sand box sand) or do you have to use arigonite from yout LFS?

But to answer, yes you can but not just any kind. That thread should tell you which ones are suitable.

Will the play sand turn into live sand like arigonite will with time?

Yes it will become live eventually, but for best results use a cup or two of live sand to seed it. Either from an established aquarium or I think you can also get some from liverocks.com
