Hey everyone, Just picked up this Stylo about six hours ago and finally got him in there. I know a good bit about the species, however I have no hands on experience with them. The coral right now (20 min after adding to tank) has a relatively smooth and almost plastic look with a few areas, maybe 2% showing bumpy polyps. Is this smooth plastic look normal when polyps are not extended?

I can see the pic too.

What species of stylophora is it supposed to be, doesn't really look like pistellata to me. Is it a hard coral? My sylophora had that quality when the plyps were retracted, so if it is stylo, that would be consistant.

The actual classification is unknown to me, I just know that its a more rare "flat" stylo opposed to the usual knobby thicker stylo. Im working on finding exactly what it is now. It is definately a hard coral. I'll post back when I have the exact name just to put the mystery to rest.

Thanks, thats good to know, if you need to bump me to the ID forum go for it, I guess I should have posted there instead of general. Thanks again RR.
