I dont do fresh I am a salt guy my dad has a red tailed shark or red fin shark chasing all his other fish ? is can my sister put it in her tank she has all big finny gold fish well let me know and thanks

Well, I do believe that Red Fin Sharks are a peacful, yet semi territorial fish. Anyhow, it is kinda hard to get goldfish and tropical fish to live, and prosper, together because they need many different conditions. Goldfish reaquire cold water and their own kind of food. Tropical fish require much warmer water. I myself would give it a try to see how it works out. I currently, not by choice though, have 3 large fantail goldfish in my tropical 55gal tank and they love it, so I don't really have much room to talk. What other kinds of fish are in with your dads red fin shark? That could be a problem too.

I dont know i have to get him to learn how to use these forums cause he keeps calling my house and telling me what to ask you guys well thanks i will see if i can find out but all of his other fish do get along good

Yeah, didn't you see "Jaws?" Sharks can be really nasty!!!

Joking...

Redfin sharks can be quite territorial. I've heard a few complaints about this behavior before. I don't think there would be a serious issue with the goldfish, but it's possible that the RTS would continue to be aggressive. If any species can endure it, goldfish can...

Of course, Devilishturtles is right. Goldfish should really be kept in a colder-water environment. Apart from the obvious (it being more natural), such an environment restricts the rate of their metabolism, which soars when they're in warm water. In cold water, these fish can live for months without any serious source of food!! Just some *food* for thought for your dad... I'm sure he's well aware of how messy goldfish can be, especially in a small space.

Does the shark have a good place to call its own, such as a cave, hollow decoration or clay pot? That could help a lot. How big is the tank the shark is in?

it is a 30 g tank and no he just has some drift wood in there not much toguht

Make sure to give him plenty of hiding places so he can choose one that he prefers and he will leave the other fish alone. He is chasing right now because he has not place to call his own. Try purchasing some PVC pipe and half buring it in the tank for him, he will love this. My red tail loves his.

Btw, thumbs up for you helping the dad out by asking for him LOL Poor guy is a bit technology impaired eh?

30 gallon should work. But as I mentioned, get a decoration or clay pot for him to call his own. Or, as puffergirl mentioned, some PVC will do. Anything that gives the guy a cave like territory to call his own. :D

I agree with the hiding place on the shark. I have 5 of them in a 20 gal and they pretty much leave each other alone at most times, each has his or her own little hiding place in the bottom of the tank. They seem to stay there untill feeding time or lights out then they chase each other for a few hours and quite back down.
