reef or saltwater

i been thinking about getting a saltwater aquarium, but i dont know alot about them. what is the difference between reef and saltwater?

a reef has live rock, live sand, corals and inverts along with some fish if wanted while a regular saltwater or fish only tank just has fish, some have live rock and live sand as well but it is not necessarily needed.

IMO the only difference between reef and FO or FOWLR is that in a reef setup you have high output lights and you have coral and other assorted stationary/semi stationary inverts.
