While doing my water ghange Oscar hides in a hollow log. When going to turn on the water for the python to start the vacuum he must have jumped ship. After filling the tank I started looking for him by this time he had flopped under the stand and was dead. When the covers are on there are no holes for escape.I never thought of him getting out while working on the tank I thought I would see him if this happened. Now I need to find pleco another buddy and a way to keep this from happening again. I really did like the little guy:sick:

That's tough to have it happen like that. Unfortunately, as smart as Oscars are, they do some REALLY stupid things sometimes.  When I had them, I only opened 1/2 of the tank at a time to do it's maintenance. If the lid was a solid piece, I would either float a styro sheet on 1/2 the tank or use a styro box lid to cover the part of the tank I wasn't working on until the water level was down far enough that jumping out was not an easy thing to do. When it comes to Oscars and other jumper species, you just have to be smarter than the fish. ;);)

Thanks Andy
That is a good idea doing one side at a time. I will leave both sides on until I get water flowing just let the lid sit on the hose and take it off when I get back from the sink. Any way new Oscar will be here at 18:00 when my son gets home. This one is a little larger hope him and pleco get along.

Not much messes with a Pleco so I wouldn't be worried unless the Pleco can fit in the Oscar's mouth. (y)
