Has anyone ever heard of this? Apparently Petsmart sells them?

Dealing with an issue away from this forum, and someone is trying to work out why their fish are dying after adding this rock with seeds. I think they might be confused and have added something like CaribSea LifeRock which is "seeded" with marine organisms. This would be calcium carbonate which will be buffering their water, increasing their pH, and also raising their GH, and might explain their sudden fish deaths.

What does everyone think?

Here's the first question: Assuming it's the LifeRock, Is the person using it in freshwater or saltwater? If it's freshwater, there's your answer.. It's saltwater rock for saltwater tanks. If it's saltwater, the pH and GH concerns wouldn't be there.

I'm making an assumption on the LifeRock, and it's on quora, so its not a great platform for narrowing stuff down, and getting answers to questions etc.

Established aquarium, 55 gallons. 2 parrot fish. From other things they have mentioned, i presume freshwater parrot fish, not the marine parrotfish, but if i get any further comment from them ill double check. Had the fish at least a year. The only water parameters they have is pH, which is "good" whatever that means. One of the parrot fish has gone from orange to "white like a ghost". It happened after adding this "rock with seeds for plants" from Petsmart.

I'm just curious if these rocks with seeds are an actual thing, because I've never heard of them. I'm just speculating that maybe they have misunderstood what "seeded" means, and have added some marine liverock into a freshwater aquarium. I've asked them, but getting responses off quora is hit and miss, although they have responded back on some other questions earlier. Liverock would give an explanation for what's happened too.

I'm inclined to say its something the rock did, as that's what has gone in the aquarium recently.

Is it the Penn-Plax Aqua Floras?

It refers to it as a resin which has me believing that the resin on the one the OP used may not have been "cured" properly. I would suggest they contact Penn-Plax to find out if this is a possibility or maybe they can explain the bleaching of the one fish. (y)
