hello.

can i put salt in tank with corys?

i ask this because i think corys are of the same family as plecos and i dont know if they have scales.

plz respond asap

no salt with cories.. honestly, no salt period for FW tanks IMO

Same here. No salt with freshwater fish unless treating for ich. Even then, I prefer the heat method. Some lfs push it on you and tell you that it is necessary, but as long as you have a healthy stock of fish, you don't need it.

exactly, you don't even need the salt for ich, just heat of over 86 for 2 weeks and its much less stressful on the fish.

jeesh this is about the eighteenth question about salt today.... like they said just raise the heat. And with chorydoras they don't do well at all with salt.

thats what i wanted to know. actually yesterday i noticed some white spots on my comets' tails. i immediately thought that it was ich. thats why i posted to know whether corys can suppprot salt cause i was going to add in salt to my tank. (i do not have a heater and thats not really a problem for me.)

however, this morning i noticed that the white spots on the comets diminished. when i looked nearer, i noticed that it was only tiny balloons of air stuck to the fish. it came form my power filter which produces very fine ballloons sometines.

so, no worries. however i still wanna ba sure if corys have scales or not. coz i have albino corys and seem to notice scales on their body. coz i dont think plain skin can be that glossy.

Cories don't have scales? What are those scale looking things then? I always thought they were basically armored.

Yeah they are but I think it's because they don't have scales like other fish.

You should invest in a good heater in case you do happen to get ich. The salt will not be a good option for you.
