My friend has a 20 gallon tank- she just received 2 angelfish from her uncle since he was moving. She put them in the tank (about 2 months ago) and since then, almost every week, they are laying a lot of eggs! It's the same thing over and over though...for a while, everything is fine. The fish seem to be very protective of the eggs and they move the eggs from plant to plant to plant. Sometimes, however, they eat them. We noticed that recently, some have survived! We tried transferring the babies to another smaller tank, but they died as well. This is new to me (as well as my friend) but I would like to know more about what we can do differently if they continue to lay eggs like they have been.

Well, if you have a mating pair of angels, you're likely to have babies! That's wonderful news. Problem with moving babies: did you check that the water conditions were the same in the other tank? Was the temp the same, the pH?

I'll cede to Allivymar, as she has and loves angels. Perhaps she can think what might have happened if it wasn't a temp/pH problem.

Also, what were you feeding the babies? Hikari "first bites" are great, as is "Liquifry." I use both for balance. If you weren't feeding them something like this, it's remotely possible that they starved. How big were the babies when they passed?

*high fives madasa* Simulpost! Wheeeeeeeeee *grin*

Ok, I shouldn't have been THAT lazy LOL Coupla thoughts to add to madasa's:

They'll likely continue to breed; I suggest, if your friend wants to keep the fry, follow the directions in the link I gave about removing them and the aftercare once they are in a new tank. My guess is the deaths were caused by a number of things; disease/not 100% pristine water, and improper food supply once the yolk has been eaten. They need just about perfect water parameters, and baby brine shrimp are the number one food recommendation for angelfish fry according to the gurus. You'll notice most angelfish breeders do not breed their angels in the main tank, or remove the eggs ASAP to prevent probs.

The babies were getting the same food as the adults...flake food (probably not the best). I just printed out the info from the site you mentioned (thanks!!!! :D ) and I will go over it with my friend. I'll keep you posted.
