I just bought 5 serpa tetra, and a very small clown loach this morning and put them into a 10 gal. quarantine tank(i'm learning!lol). They
Tetra's looked fine when I bought them,,, and four of them still do.

The fifth one,,, his lips/mouth(?) look kinda white and sorta flat I guess, compared to the other 5. He's interacting with, and acting like the other fish, doens't seem to be problematic to him. It's just after the ich problem in the big tank a few weeks ago and the resulting problems,,,

We just took 6 tigers barbs out of that aquarium for introduction into a larger tank yesterday and all seem quite happy and active.

nitrAte - 0-20
nitrrIte - 0
GH - 150-300
KH - 180-300
pH - 7.2-7.8

(done with a quick dip, that's the reason for the xx-oo numbers)

Anyone have an idea of what could be up, why, and what to do about it?

If they need to be treated, with what, and would a quarantine be necessary, because we don't really have the resources to "quarantine the quarantine tank".

thanks for reading!!!

It may be cotton mouth (Columnaris). I have never had to deal with it personally. It can be found in the first link, the other links may also be helpful.

You will want to begin treatment immediately with Kanamycin. I would treat all the new tetras, since they have all been exposed.

Thanks for your reply,,, Since I live in a "small town",,, kind of limited what I have access to,,, went to Walmart (where i bought the sick fish) last night and ended up buying some "all natural" stuff from Meleluca that was recommended by the guy buffing the floors!!! Have changed water (25%) and dosed 'em up and they look good, the one that had it is looking better as well.

Will his lips grow back???

thanks again!!!

I used to live in Moscow, ID, I know all about small selections. I've never used that product, but if it's working--GREAT!! You should tell the janitor to join us
Have the lips been eaten away, or just covered with a bacterial/fungal infection? In either event, the lips should grow back *crossing my fingers*
