This fish came with a used 10gl aquarium I bought recently. Last fish swimming, going by the multitude of name labels on the tank. Must be hardy if they didn't kill him. The label that might apply is "Algae eater doctor fish" aka garra rufa. It seems to be the correct name for this survivor.
He (?) is about 2", likes to hide, but is quick to come out to gulp down the flakes when I feed him.

Many articles claim that they like company. I added a few guppies to that tank.
Should I try to find him other red garras, and if so is 10gl big enough for now?

The company it meant was other Garras not other fish species.

As long as the fish is feeding, I'd leave it alone because they can get feisty with each other when cramped and a 10 gal is not really big enough to house a small school of them. If you were going to get more when he's transferred to a larger tank ( 3'-4' long tank), I'd get another 5 or 6 as only adding 1 or 2 can lead to some aggression.

Hope this helps. (y)

He seems to be OK so far, probably has been used to being single for a while. I'll leave it like this for now then. Thanks.
