I am new to this hobby. I have 6 neons and 1 catfishy in my 55gal. Over the past few days the water has been getting cloudy. The tank is a pretty new setup.
Nitrites 0. Ammonia .25 and NitRAtes 0.
I am not sure what it could be. I have read a few posts that say something about KH.. How do I measure for this? What else could be happening ?
The water is getting cloudier little by little every day. It is a whitish color.
As always any and all help is greatly appreciated..

Best Regards,
Richie

It might be a bacteria bloom, I had that happen a few months ago. The LFS said to let it be, it'll dissapate on it's own.

Hi Richie :D Is this tank set up brand new? Sounds like a classic bacteria bloom. Try doing small daily water changes (about 20%).

As Brian said, this is almost certainly a bacterial bloom. This usually happens in new or overstocked tanks when nitrogenous waste elements are present in abundance. Bacteria ceases to colonize only the surfaces of the tank, and moves to the water column, clouding up the water. If you have any ammonia in your tank, you have too much ammonia. Ammonia should always be at 0 in a well-cycled tank.

How long have you been cycling your tank? You should cycle for at least 2 weeks with either ammonia injections, or a hardy species of fish (such as Zebra Danios) before adding any other fish.

And no, you're not beating a dead horse. We're glad to answer any questions if they help you and keep your fish healthy and alive!
