Probably boring you guys to death with this crap, but it lets me vent. Stopped in at the store today, still no stand. Was told begining of the week it would definetely be here today. Keep in mind I have been waiting on the stand since 6/26. Was originally told two weeks. Tried talking to the guy who owns the store, wasnt willing to work with me on the price of the combo. When I bought it, the tank was 139.99, now its 99.99, plus the price of the stand and canopy. Total is now 401.99 Even though I have been waiting patiently since to recieve the stand and canopy, he wasnt willing to match the price with a instore credit. He said he got them from two different batches, and he would be losing money on the deal. Heres what I dont understand. They advertise themselves as Northern Florida`s largest dealer of sw fish for the last 35 years. So wouldnt they have accounts set up with the tank manufactuers so they are getting the same deal? I`ve been very polite the whole time since I ordered, I just am starting to feel like I`m never going to get this stand. But the woman I spoke to today says she was planning on doing a gift certificate or something for me being so patient, and I told her about the price difference. She said she was really surprised he wasnt willing to do anything, but that he had lost his mother this past week, and may not of been in the best state of mind. I told her I understood completely but was just surprised that he wasnt willing to do anything in the interest of customer satisfaction, pointing out that I obviously still have a tremendous amount of money left to invest in the aquarium. She says she talked to someone and they say the stand will be here Monday, even though they are closed, but I can either pick it up then, or on Tuesday during their regular business hours. I told her she obviously had enough going on Monday, not to worry about it, she wanted to call me Monday, but I told her if she did that was fine, but it really wasnt necessary. Tuesday would be perfectly acceptable given her circumstances. I think she is either the owners wife, or the manager. So am I being unreasonable? Am I being a pushover, pain in the a$$ customer, what? They had originally told me 2 weeks for the stand. Ocea says theres no reason why I should still be waiting for the stand but they are going to check into it from their end. They said their slowest turnaround time is 2 weeks. After two weeks I stopped into the store and they said Ocea was backed up by two weeks because they shut down two weeks for the 4th of July. Sounded stranged to me but what could I say? Any thoughts?

Are you saying that it would be impossible to pull out of the deal and walk away with your tank? I would have tried to get a stand some other way, or DIY.

I could walk out, but I`m one of those people who TRULY believe, if I cancel the order, it`ll be sitting there the next day. And then I`ll be waiting how ever much longer. I thought about making my own stand. But unfortunately, I really dont have the time for it right now. I have training (CDC`s), that has to be my #1 priority right now. So atleast for the next 4 months I`ll be studying for that. So if I do wait to build it, thats that much time I will of lost for cycling, stocking, and learning from mistakes :?

If I were you, then I would walk in and demand my money back. Since you don't have a product in hand, he did not make good with the sales contract of two weeks. Demand the money back. He should give it back. I would make it worth his while to give it back....negative advertisements, file a complaint at the chamber of commerce, stuff like that. I don't usually make people's lives miserable, but if they are just being a jerk for their own benefit, I wouldn't mind too much. You should have the legal right to get your money back for a product that hasn't been produced in the agreed upon transaction. :x

I have the tank in hand. Thats the only thing I have. I think I`m going to give them until tuesday, and if its not there though, request a refund and turn the tank back over.

I would ask for a refund on the tank as well. Get the 139.99 back from that tank, and then come in the next week and get it for the 99.99 price.

That'll show him. Retailers like this make me so mad.

Todd

In my opinion, even if he were to lose 40 on the deal, it would be worth it in the long run to have the repeat business. SW tanks are so expensive, and I`m literally just getting started on mine.

Yes. IMHO.

The thing that gets me the most is the 139 to 99 dollar difference. Not price matching his own price within 2 weeks when part of your order is still not delivered. Hello. I can understand tough family problems, but he needs to make good in some way. In theory you are a life long customer. The only question is to who: him or his competitor?? Kinda of gives you a window into dealing with him in the future, don't it...

What size tank and stand are we talking about here? I mean for the dollar amounts it sounds like its a medium sized tank. IMO nothing they should not have had in stock in the first place.

Like you said, i would give him untill tuesday and if it STILL is not in, get your money back for everything and never shop there again. You have waited long enough and been told it was gonna be in time after time...thats stupid.....i would go in there and tell him you want your money pack and if he gives you crap or tries to sweet talk you....rip him a new one and demand your money back!

If they don't have it Tuesday I would take it all back. If it is on a credit/debit card it would be easy even if they will not offer a refund. I think you have been more than patient with the guy. I am sorry to hear about his personal life, but that also should not affect how long an order takes to be delivered. In my area (South Florida) there are a bunch of stores, and I aready have one that I will not go to because of a bad attitude manager. Sounds like either this is the only store in your area or you are too loyal of a customer. :)

Its a 55 gallon Ocea Walnut hood and stand combo with a 55 tank, and I believe the tank was manufactured by Ocean View Aquarium Products. Theres one other shop in the area that I`ve found that deals with sw, but they are just starting to experiment with it. Theres supposed to be a third, but I havent been able to find it yet. Its just frustrating because I`ve always wanted a big tank. Parents had 2 55 sw tanks when I was little, sold them when we moved, all I was ever allowed to have was a 10, dad later bought himself a 33, and now that I`m finally on my own, my wife gave me the go ahead for a big tank. She wanted a 29, but I suckered her into a 55. We bought the stand and aquarium that day, expecting to come back the next paycheck for the hood. The only hodd they had instock had a huge 8" scratch across the top of it right in the middle. So I passed, waited a week or two for them to get another one in, they got a differnt colored Ocea brand stand in, but had a walnut canopy in stock, so I switched it to that. Had them order the stand and canopy as a set, so I wouldnt have to worry about wrong color, or any damage. The original stand was made by a company called r & j.

55 definately isn't that big. Has anyone every tried going to menards/home depot and just buying a vanity, the wooden cabinet type thing that goes under your bathroom sink, and using that as a stand.

Sucks, went to the beach today, could of had some cool stuff for the aqarium if I had my stand. Found a baby stingray total length about my middle finger (almost picked it up barehanded, thought it was a horeshoe crab from above the water!), lots of little croakers, hermit crabs, a school of about 40 little puffer fish (they were about 1/8 inch long, plus lots of crabs. Usually if I go snorkeling there, I can find tons of baby flounder. Ugh, this next two days of work are going to kill me waiting to see if it came in or not!

plkdb, I would strongly suggest looking up the local laws on ocean wildlife. I hear FL has some of the strictest laws aganst taking live wildlife from the ocean.

We had the same problem from our LFS guy, promised that a stand would be there on a certain day and it wasn't, after saying it "will be here tomorrow" for the second time we just asked for the money back, the funny part was, we weren't the only one's waiting for a stand, when my husband went back to get the money there was a lady there wanting to know where her's was too, something tells me he lost 2 sales that day. I'd ask for you money back, you've waited way too long if you've waited from June, you have a lot more patience than I do! :)

Good point about the wildlife laws! I really wasnt thinking about that. I`ll check into it, theres also tons of sand dollars there too. Yeah, if its not there tuesday, the orders getting cancelled, and the tank is going back. I`ve just spent so much time that could have been spent on cycling and such. Found a cool site though:

http://www.tonmo.com/phpBB/index.php

Its a website forum for people who keep octopus`s. Theres actually a lot of people who do it. From what I`ve read on there the bimac species seem to be really popular, and are really active.

The only good thing I can say about the extended wait is it has give me more "research" time to figure out exactly how I want my tank set up as far as decorating with live rock and corals. I`ve got a good collection of other aquariums from the web that if I see something I like, I put a copy of it in a folder.

THATS RIGHT! NOW I`M REALLY MAD!!!! Just kidding. I just want my stand already. I`m about ready to do it college style. Leave it on the floor next to my wire spool dining room table, and cinderblock/2x4 shelf system.
