Tang for my Tank

is a 90 gal big enough for a Yellow Tang? Tank dimensions are about 48" x 18" x 24". I'm worried it might not be long enough?

I think you would be fine. 4 ft gives him a good amount of room to swim around. What are your other inhabitants?

so far nothing...i'm in the "i wanna get this and i wanna get that and i wanna get this" stage of setting up a new tank

So far I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a pair of clowns (either True Perc's or Ocellaris) and a Blenny (probably a bi-color)

I have a 90G with a Yellow Tang, Ocellaris Clown, and 2 Damsels in it. They are all doing great. Just keep an eye on the Yellow Tang, as it is suceptible to ick more so than other fish. HTH

Heck my tank is stocked and I still "wanna get this, wanna get that" .
Of course I won't, but it never ends.

Most of the places I have checked for the Yellow Tang require a 70G minimum, so I thought it would be safe for a 90G.

IMO think you would be fine..ive heard waterflow keeps them more in shape which would equal healthy so maybe get some power heads

90 gallon you will be fine. It is not to small. 4 feet gives them alot of room to swim. You will be fine. You should get a Black longnose tang. My favorite. Just can't afford it.

mrmarine - I noticed you have a Kole Tang as well as a yellow Tang together. How is that working out for you? I wanted one of those Koles as well, but wasn't sure if they would get along or not. Will you let me know?

That is a very attractive fish! You're right. $278.00? - I can't afford it either, but at least it would be easy to detect ich on him since he is mostly black.

Actually tangs should have a 6' tank. It can always be looked at as an opinion more than a fact. So it really dosen't matter.

i think you will be fine with a 90 gallon if you do a yellow tang. The tangs that get bigger require a larger tank. Such as regals, unicorn, naso, things like that. But a simple yellow tang you will be fine.

size wise i think you are plenty ok as long as you keep it lightly stocked watch your final choices for temperament issues...i went with a kole tang and even though he is one of the least aggressive of the sturgeons he knows he is the king of the tank and has made sure the other fish know it also(since he is the self proclaimed king we named him elvis )

Black longnose tang is a nice looking fish, but I rather try a 30 dollar one before one upwards of 300!

Six-line...I've read a lot of your posts before and think that you are very knowledgable about SW so don't take this as me doubting you or anything, I was just curious on your opinion of the tank being too small? Experience or have you read it some where?

Be sure to quarantine, with it stated that they are known to get and carry ick easily....keeping an eye on them is not enough to prevent your tank from being infected. While all fish should be quarantined, I would consider these near the top of the list for most likely to come with "baggage".
