Very new to the hobby, I have 10 gal tank. Cycled tank for twenty four hours before putting fish in. Started with a Beta, 2 Dwarf gouramis and a couple of tetras and two cat fish. Beta and Gouramis died and 1 of the cat. Beta was badly beaten up, but was fine the first couple of days with the other fish?? All fish turned grey before dying and all died at night when the lights for my aquarium was switched off. I stopped switching off the light  just to be safe.

Definitely read up on the nitrogen cycle!! Do you have a test kit? Test for ammonia and change out 50% of your water before doing anything else (make sure you dechlorinate the fresh water before adding it).

Most fish will take the opportunity to take a few chunks out of a disabled fish, so when the betta started dying, I'm sure some of the other took the free meal.

Lastly, you should turn off the tank lights at night. Fish will become severly stressed when kept under full tank lighting 24hrs a day.
