I have a 10 gal tank, and since adding a 96 watt CF fixture, I have been having a hard time controlling the temperature. It is 77 at night, where I want it to be, but spikes to well over 82 in the day.

Could simply adding a fan solve this probelm, or will it take more work than that?

Yes a fan will help , I have mine perched on the filter blowing over the top , I just went to walmart and got a small turbo fan that cost about 7 bucks and works like a charm it is made by lakewood and comes in many colors . The evaporation is much higher but the temps stay 72.4* 24/7 HTH

The other thing that I failed to mention is that stability is the key you dont want big swings , the other thing that you may choose to do is what we did , we put the fan on a timer with the light so that they work in tandem
