My2 tinfoil barbs are about 5 inches long and kill anything else I put in the 20 gallon with them.
LFS1 - tinfoils aren't agressive, something else killed them ( then y the numerous fin fips?)
LFS2 - sell the fish and start over
OR get a bigger tank and put in an oscar or green terror or red devil

opinions?

was also considering an algae eater since they are aggressive and small

Ive heard that tinfoil barbs do best and won't be as aggresive if in a school of 3 or more. I was told the same with my balas except in a school of 6 or more, but I have just 2 and theyre doing fine. Tinfoil Barbs are a semi-aggresive fish, but are normally aggresive towards other barbs or sharks. Ideally, tinfoil barbs need to be kept in a large tank with several others. Good fish to keep your barb with are clown loaches, bala sharks, rainbow sharks, and a clown knife fish. I am just telling you what Ive heard from other people because I have never personally owned a tinfoil barb, although am planning on purchasing one soon when I get my 60 gal.

Now that I think of it, having a larger school of tinfoils would most likely keep them more occupied with themselfs, rather than other fish. Looky here (taken from aquariumfish.net, http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_pages/cyprinids/barb_tinfoil.htm#top2 ):
"Hi, I'd like to thank you for your advice on tinfoil barbs and keeping them in groups of 6 or more. It saved our Pictus Catfish a lot of grief when we added another 4 tinfoils! Now we have a school of 6 super fast swimmers who are a lot of fun to watch."
