Trauma question.

How traumatic is it to the fish if you remove all of the plants and structures in the tank. I have a cave that houses a catfish, which I never see because he never comes out of the cave.

As stated in a previous post, I have lost a new addition to the tank. I think the fish is in one of the ornaments. I think this because since I added the fish and he has gone missing I am getting unexplainable spikes in my ammonia and nitrate levels.

I want to remove them. clean them and then put them back..they would be out of the tank for no more than an hour.

Removing items in your aquarium won't cause any real trauma to your fish and is a good idea, as that "lost" new addition is probably aiding the ammonia spikes you're seeing.
