Anyone here use tuffa for base rock?

I have about 30lbs in my main tank and about 20lbs in my volitans tank.

My question is how long will it take for this rock to become live? I also have about 70lbs of LR in my main with 6lbs of Garf Grunge.

In my volitans tank I have 1 piece of LR and 5lbs of Garf Grunge.

I think the tuffa will look pretty cool if it grows alot of corraline on it.

Are there any recipes on growing your own LR?

Thanks,
Rich

I do, but it's a new tank. The tufa is very very very porous. The bacteria will take up residence in no time. As far as the coralline and the like spreading, that depends on lighting and water conditions. It's a good rock, because not only is it ultra-porous, but it will act as a natural buffer, just like the sand will. The texture of my tufa is very sandy. Hope this helps.
