when it came time for the morning feeding, I noticed my angelfish wasn't coming up to nibble like it usually does ... so I figured it was in a mood (gets that way sometimes)

so, I fed my other fish a few helpings of flakes and then removed my hood and canopy to do some maintenence on the plants, and noticed several small schools of molly fry hiding in the weeds which were covering the surface of the water.

ah ha ... so that's why the angel wasn't eating - it had gotten it's fill of live food already

so I've cleaned out a 10 gallon from storage, filled it up 50/50 with water from my main tank and new water treated from the tap, I also took a small h.o.b. filter off my goldfish storage bin and put it into service with a sponge around the intake

looks like I got 4 silver, 3 marbled and 5 black, but will have to wait a few weeks to see what their colors really turn out to be

Very cool! good to hear you saved some of them, and its nice to have extra equip. around for babies and quarantine. good luck with the babies, and i bet your angel is pretty happy too!

those mollies spawn like crazy! i only have one pair thats Black & Gold and i just donated about 25 or so babies, some half grown already, to the fish store today and got free Star Grass, Salt and some worms for them. :D

congratz on the babies! they grow pretty quickly

Keep an eye on your tank...the mother will probably have more babies very soon. One of the first fish I ever owned was a molly, and it had three sets of babies as soon as I brought it home from the fish store!

laying them in batches eh?

I just 'fished' out two more (sorry for the pun)

a silver and a marbled... I left the top off for a while so I can look in often this evening ... lights out in about 30 min, maybe she's starting her second? run ...

netted five more mollies last night and this morning, 17 now total

also netted four platies ... soooo tiny compared to the molly fry

guess my largish (at least 7 gal) water change prompted the fish to spawn or something
