and is it s good idea use it?

I learned some valuable things about my tank, and I plan to set up another one, but I don't have a whole lot of money to get a hood and filter n stuff so im looking on ebay and I ran across a good deal and it comes with "bio sponge filter" any advice?

Sponge filters aren't new but I've used them many times with great success. Basically they utilize a spongy material as a mechanical filter (removes particles) and the sponge also acts as a bed for the growth of beneficial bacteria so you get the all-important biological filtration as well. I usually used the sponge-type filters in bare breeding tanks because I didn't have to worry about tiny fry being sucked up by the filter but I've also used it in regular tanks with plants and substrate. In fact, I'm using a sponge filter by a company called Jungle right now in my daughter's 5 gallon tank.

A quick scan on the web tells me that the Bio-sponge is a brand name for what looks to be a well-designed sponge filter.

I can't speak for everyone, but I have read about a lot of people using only sponge filters in their tanks. I have a sponge filter in each of my tanks along with either a canister or HOB filter. I like the extra biological filtration. I think they are a great filter at a great price.
