ive been trying to read up on biocubes prior to getting mine and have found myself a little confused.

What do you remove from the filter in the back? the cartridge, bioballs and the sponge? what do you replace the cartridge in chamber 1 with then? what do you replace the sponge with?

sorry just a little confused right now

thank you for the help

Bioballs-live rock rubble
Filter cartridge-chemipure elite pouch place in the powerhead chamber
Sponge- keep it and rinse it out in clean salt water 1X month.
This is what I have done and things are running very nicely.
Partial Water change with "Ocean in a box" or RO or distilled water mixed with synthetic sea salt only, at LEAST 2X a month. If you have a crazy amount of fish-once a week minimum. NO TAP WATER ALLOWED. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
Now go enjoy the aquarium hobby and don't forget to post pics! Good luck!

Which Biocube are you thinking about? I would strongly suggest you go to www.nanotuners.com or someone equivalent and get the upgraded light canopy with yours. It's much easier to do in the beginning. I wish I had.

i was thinking the 14 gal.

what about steamdistilled water?. i do plan on getting a good RO/DI system for the house but it will be a number of months before i can afford such a big unit

thanks
