I'm on my way out today after work to possibly buy a tank for my cories and start getting supplies for my rift tank. Some of the websites I have researched suggested the use of "eggcrate" (why it's named this is beyond me) when aquascaping with rocks. They said that is disperses the weight and protects the bottom? Does anyone else use this?

protecting the bottom from something like a pebble getting trapped under 200 lbs of rock, so it's putting all that weight on a single point of the glass - that's what the eggcrate is to prevent

probably 1/2" styrofoam insulation would work as well

just taking the time to make sure that no pebbles get trapped under your rocks and that the rocks are firmly glued to each other and to the tank walls should be a safe bet

good luck with the project - keep us informed!
