Personally I say put what ever plants you want to in your tank, as long as you have the lighting for it. If you have less than 2wpg use lowlight plants. Basically put in the tank what you like, and thinks looks good. Its all a matter of personal choice. Oh and you can combine the topics, such as this and the filter question. As for the fry, I wouldnt really know, I dont try to breed my fish, even though they have bred in my tanks before.

how do rootless plants multiply?

I assume you mean bunch plants or stem plants?

In any case, they mutiply in an aquarium by cuttings. you cut the tops off of them and both parts continue to grow. In nature, they would break into pieces (storm, flood, fish eating, boat propellers, grow too long). Again, all the broken pieces would grow into a new plant. They can, and often do, float away and start a new colony of the plants elsewhere.
Even most of those type plants can still have flowers and seeds to reproduce by also.
