I want to set up a DSB in my SW aquarium.
Will fine crushed coral do the job, or do I need sand?
I've already spent a stupid amount of money on the
crushed coral so preferably I'd like to use that.

In not, I can get 100lb of fine white silica sand
for $5, so will that do that job?

I really don't want to spend over $100 for
southdown "playsand" online.
Anyone in AZ got any for sale? hehe

Thanks!

i would personally use the white silica sand......i searched all over and never found it here!! as for the crushed coral it is most likely to big of a grain size to do the job so i would definately go with sand

Yes, but IMO aragonite is better if you can find it locally.

You might check with some reef clubs in your area, lots of time they will order pallettes of Southdown and sell it to their members at cost. If yours doesn't do this, you might suggest it ;)
