High guys,

I'm just starting out and had a question about lighting.

I bought a 30 gallon, and want to have a couple clown fish.
I have 5-6 spare florescent lights for growing plants, they are full-spectrum @ 33 watt each.
Would these work at all? Along with another lighting type?

Also, if anyone has topic links that I'd learn some good stuff from, post up!

Thanks,
-Joel / Megalomanic

If all you want is clown fish, then that light would be sufficient. Just don't let anyone tell you to try anemones under there. But some LR, clowns, and maybe even another fish would do fine.

Welcome to AquariumAdvice.com :)

What do you mean by full spectrum? As MACATUA said, you will be fine with most types of lights in a FO or FOWLR but you must be sure not to use low spctrum bulbs <6500k. They will promote alot of unwanted algaes. At 33w each, you would be fine with 3-4 of those if you will be keeping LR. You may also want to incorporate an actinic bulb or two instead of the ones you have if you add LR as it will promote the growth of desirable coralline algaes.

Cheers
Steve
