Aquarium Advice Activist
I read in an aquarium guide book a list of maintenance steps. It is made as a general guide. I posted the list below.
What would you who are Cichlid experts add, remove or rearrange if you were making an African Cichlid maintenance list?
Daily Maintenance
Check that all the fish are accounted for and healthy
Check the water temperature
Check that the filter is running properly
If the lights are on a timer, check that they turn off and on as planned
Use an algae magnet
Feed the fish
Weekly Maintenance
Clear algae with a pad or scrapper
Partial water change
Vacuum the gravel
Wash mechanical filter if necessary
Test for ph, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates
Top up water to compensate for evaporation
Monthly Maintenance
Wash biological filter if necessary
Replace carbon if used
Wipe down lights and glass cover
Clean filter impeller and inlet/outlet pipes
Yearly Maintenance
Replace light tubes
Check for wear and tear on filter impeller
Buy new test kit to ensure it is up to date
Review the size of the fish and judge to see if the tank is still large enough
Inspect the integrity of the cabinet and hood
