Greetings. I have enjoyed AA for the short time I have found it. Wonderful people and advice. I have a situation that I am not quite sure about.

Background info

6 convicts
2 male 4 female
2 females are albino

1 pair just had fry about 2 weeks ago.

1 female laid eggs but none were fertilized. She also had a swollen gland but disappeared after she laid eggs.

The female who has fry now also had the swollen gland but that also disappeared a little while after laying eggs.

Now the another albino female has the swollen anus and looks very orange like she is ready to go.

But what throws off the coincidence is that this male has a swollen gland too and his is really bad now. It was huge today.

I do have white poop in the tank so I thought worms or parasites but it isn't thin and stringy like what I have been researching. It's thick and heavy. My siphon hose won't even pick it up. It just sucks it about 2 inches then drops to the bottom. I also haven't seen which fish is pooping white. I am attaching pics if the male. If anyone has a clue about what's going on please chime in. Thanks AA!!

Almost looks like intestinal worms or another parasite which are could be fatal and contagious. I would start with a anti-parasitic medicated food then treat the entire tank with Metrozoidale and Praziquantel like in Parasite Clear from Jungle. That would explain the stringy white pooh and the anal vent.

Welcome to the site, sorry a sick fish was your first question.

Also what size tank are you working with here?

Dude that's how mine look when they where doing fishy porn if you get my drift ;-)

I thought about treating for parasites but I was worried about the fry. Currently they are in a 29 gallon. I am planning to start a 55 gallon and will probably move them out.

I thought that it could be because they were spawning and my lfs said that males can get the swollen gland along with females when the time is right.

I read that stress could cause white poop also so that's what I thought it could be. I mean this poop is normal looking. Maybe a bit thicker then normal. It is not stringy at all.

Thanks for mentioning what meds to use. I will probably look into it if it doesn't go away. But like I said the poo isn't thin and stringy like the symptoms if parasites, but it could explain going from 1 to another.

My fault I didn't read throughly the first time regarding the pooh. I would then just keep the water conditions clean and monitor everything else. All our seeing is the ovipositor or egg tube, for the females. Sorry my Lunesta pill is kicking in.

He does look quite bloated around his stomach area, is he eating?

Ya know what! I think you right about parasites. I just went to look at him and now there us thin white stringy poo coming out along with what looks like a little red worm coming out too. Not a great pic but I think I've seen enough and will head to my lfs store tomorrow or amazon. Is the meds from jungle safe to use with fry in the tank?

Just an update. I've been treating the tank with tetra lifeguard (past 3 days) since the only anti parasite item from jungle I could find at my lfs was anti parasite fish food which they hate to eat lol but I leave it in the tank and they eventually eat it. The swelling has gone down a bit but is not totally gone yet. it is at a less scary level though for sure. Thanks again for the friendly advice. Here are a few pics of mom and dad and they 2-3 week old fry and my tank as a whole. Thanks again!

Ps: I also couldn't pass up on a new 100 gallon oceanic view tank /stand, glass top, standard 2 hooded lights setup for $430 at my lfs today. so pretty soon I will be attempting a real planted fw tank. Rather then just the 4 live plants i have now in my current 29 Guess its time to read up some more!
