I just found a small 2 inch specimen mixed in with the regular Kribs at LFS. Came home to id it from pics and came up with the species name. I added it to my 72 community since my regular Krib is very aggressive to conspecifics.

Anyone have any experience or advice on P. Sacramenti? So far he has been a little fiesty standing up to any fish that give him trouble but does not seem particularly aggressive otherwise. The little I've found says its a "Giant Krib" how big does giant mean?

thanks in advance for any help. :)

here are pics as best as I could get em:

Got this quote typing in Kribs and their Cousins On Google:

Giant krib: Commonly referred to by a spurious Latin name, Pelvicachromis sacromontis, this fish appears to be geographical variant of Pelvicachromis pulcher. It is a little larger than the typical common krib (males are around 5-6") and has rather more intense colours including a distinctive electric blue edge to the caudal fin not seen on common Kribs. They also sport silvery-blue patches on the cheeks beneath the eyes. They lack the longitudinal golden bands seen on common Kribs, the chocolate bands being separated by a pinkish-white band instead. Giant Kribs are associated with forest streams and need soft and acidic water for breeding purposes, a pH of 6.0 being about right.

Hope this helps :)

cool, thanks. that is more than I had found on the little guy. Doubt I'll get to breed him, but its good to have the info.

Of course. :)
Also, Are you aware one is from South America while the other is from Africa?

you have a source for that? Everything I've ever seen says Pelvicachromis are an African only family.

Sorry Lol I meant the Electric Blue Ram is from South America and Kribs/Pelvicachromis Pulcher (variant of Pulcher are Pelvicachromis Sacromontis/Giant Krib), Subocellatus and Taeniatus and all the color morphs are from Africa is what I was talking about.

Here is a link on the Giant Krib
