im using a marineland, penguin 150, bio-wheel powerfilter. got it from petco.

Alright would my power filter need to be a bio wheel or does that not matter?

that does not matter, in fact the bio-wheel is usually suggested to be removed anyway due to its constant long term trapping of organics, which means it will start producing nitrates on a constant basis.
