I just discovered a new hitchhiker that I haven't seen before... a crab, white/ivory in color. He pokes his front half out of his hiding spot & waves his arms (?) like the way you would to waft a smell towards your nose (hope that makes sense). Is he filter feeding? What is this behavior?

Thanks.

He's a porcelain crab. Filter feeder. Great little critters. I have dozens of them (and I swear they're reproducing as we speak, lol).

Ya I got a couple from LR.com. Great bonus, they bother no one. In fact the biggest one lives in a cave with my Peppermint shrimp with no issues.

i have crabs said:
do they need corals or anemones to survive?
ive never bought one because i dont keep any corals anymore

They shouldn't. Ours lived just fine prior to (and after) adding corals. They typically collect small particals of food floating in the water. They're defintiely cool little critters!
