Just out of curiosity I thought of testing the salinity if my LFS water the fish are in .
1.017
Is that even safe ?
My tank is at 1.025

They run it low to prevent ich and other parasites.

And no offense, but I can guarantee that hydrometer is off. I have the same one and has bee off by .04 since day 1

Agreed. Very common for shops to run hypo to discourage disease. A refractometer is worth the investment IMO.

One more reason to acclimate slowly. My guess is that was from a fish only tank. My LFS runs 2 systems one for fish with copper and the other for all the reef and invert tanks.
