closed loop vs sump - pros and cons

Cons would be less water volume (more water the better) and the heater, skimmer, etc would need to be in the display tank of hanging off the back. With a sump, all of this could be down below. You would also need to ensure you have enough live rock in your tank to adequately filter.


I'm sure there are pros as well, anyone else.
 
I would go with both. If I had to choose, I'd take the sump due to the increased water volume and the extra room for equipment. Also, sump style skimmer usually are more efficient than HOB models. If you could add a closed loop with an SQWD to the sump, that would be even better although it will leave your bank account in somewhat worse shape.
