My tank faces the same "effect" for a short time during the day and I was wondering if there are ANY benefits at all of direct sunlight on fish/live plants? Assuming water temperature is controlled and algae is well controlled with UV (23W) sterilizer?

I personally dont think it`s a good idea. Diffused lighting is one of the biggest contributors to algea in the tank. I have seen sunlight that goes through the top through the water and have done good. Just not through the glass.

you will get tons of algae. the kind that will stick to surfaces in your tank and avoid your UV sterilizer.
