After opening the filter to clean it yesterday, theres quite a loud trickling of water sound coming from inside it which wasn't there before, anyone?

Other than the unit may not have been put back together correctly or something it's seated properly, I have no clue. I have never owned an Eheim.

Could either be the impeller isn't seated properly creating cavitation or possibley there is some trapped air. Try rocking the filter back and forth a bit and see if it releases some bubbles.
