Hey folks,
I read somewhere that the size your fish grow can be limited to the actual size and "roaming space" of the tank and environment. In other words, if a fish can grow up to a foot in length in the ocean, it can actually max out at 5 inches in a home aquarium.

Any truth to this? If so, will this growth limitation also limit the life span of a fish?

Some fish will grow no matter what size the tank, is and some wont. If the fish won't grow because the tank is to small then it will be highly stressed, and wont live to long.

There will be some differences between wild adult sizes vs captive raised but the fish will not typically limit it's sized based on it's environnment. In most cases it causes internal and skelatal deformaties in the fish as well as immune deficiencies from the constant stress.

Do a google search for "fish stunting" and see what you find.

Cheers
Steve
