I just set one up today. 5 gallon bucket, bubble stone, heater, about a pound of rubble live rock and a small light with salt water. Other then introducing pods what else do I need to do.

I feed mine phyto paste weekly. I also keep a ball of chaeto in the bucket.

I start with 2 gallons in the 5 gallon blue or black bucket and a cap full of phyto. As the green phyto clears up, after a week I add another gallon of saltwater and another cap of phyto paste. I repeat this every week until the bucket is full. Then I shake everything out, transfer the chaeo and any rock to another bucket to start over. I drain the original bucket thru a fine mesh and presto, pods.

I don't use a heater. Unless its really cold where the bucket sits, you don't really need one IMO.
