Came home from work the other day to find my chocolate chip starfish on the top of the tank like always, but sure enough a hermit crab was latched on his leg as well. Is this usual, do i need to drop extra food in the tank to satisfy the killer crabs? They always are chewing him up when he comes down to the LS or LR.
thanks

if i had to guess i would say blue leg. mine are pretty aggressive compared to the scarlets or mexican red leg. after my fish eats i drop a couple of extra pellets for the crabs sometimes. they have pretty much cleaned all the algae. i drop them in a couple diiferent locations of the tank other wise i have a dozen or more hermits in one area having a giant wrestling match over the food

The crabs are probably cleaning off the starfish, not eating it.

Agree, If fed I have never seem much aggression out of mine. Just a big part of the cleanup crew.
