Hi all,
I was just wondering what the general consensus is on timered lights.

When do they go on??
When do they go off??

What is working for everyone??

I'll post my time later. I'm still playing with it.

since i like it dark in the morning but like to stay up late with my fish, my timers are set to run the tanks from 11am to 11pm.

I feel the timing of the lights is only important to the human occupants, and the fish will just have to 'get used' to whatever schedule you pick for them... provided a few basic requirements are met

1) provide a long enough 'day', 8 to 12 hours
2) provide a long enough 'night', at least as long as the day
3) once you pick the schedule, don't change it too often

Well i have three tanks and all of them come on/off at different times.

For example I have one that comes on at 9am and goes off at 9pm

I have another that comes on at 10am actinics and 11am daylight and 11pm daylight off 12pm actinics off

And the third tank comes on around 11am and goes off around 11pm.

Light your tank so you can enjoy it vs trying to simulate the acutal day light hours outside. For reef systems its good to get 10-12hours of light exposure.

mine go on at 12 noon and off at 10 pm. i light my fuge 24/7. Remember to much light will cause algea problems esp. if you have good lights.
