I have a 55 gal reef tank set up with a Tidepool SOS filter and a 20 gal sump. I have been running the system for 3 days.

I have adjusted the water level with the overflow control rod. After running the system anywhere from 8 to 12 to 20 hours, all of a sudden the level in the flow boxes will start rising. The water then flows over into the overflow tube and bulches many times, goes up and down, up and down, and WHY?

Does anyone know why it does this and what I should do? It seems to run just as well with the cap and control rod as without.

I had one of these overflows. I never could get it to work correctly. I had the exact same problem with it. It was also prone to build up air in the siphon tube. It's now gathering dust on a shelf in my shop. Wish I had a solution for you. I ended up going with a U tube style overflow and it works very well.
