I live in an area where there is tons of tufa Rock. It seems to be that it would work well as a base rock for a reef tank as it is just chock full of little holes and is pretty light. It is also somewhat brittle in small pieces. Has anyone tried this rock? Below is a link to a web site about it.

Tufa has been known to be a good base rock because it holds some buffering capabilities

I heard that that was the case cause it is ancient coral? Its hard to find much good info on it though, and as a newbie to reef I was worried that it would break down too much or something.

I heard Tufa rock dissolves....not a good thing for rock sitting on the bottom.
Just a consideration
